A GROUP of pupils from a school in Pontypool visited South Africa to work with a local charity and play sports.
Thirty-four pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw went to the township of Khayelitsha in South Africa during a two week rugby and netball tour.
While there, the group spent time with the local community and helped out during lessons at a community school.
The trip was organised by the sports department of the Pontypool school.
One of the organisers, Carys Bishop, described the visit as “an incredible opportunity” and “a humbling experience”. Miss Bishop also remarked how “happy and bubbly” the pupils at the community school were despite their poor living circumstances.
Fundraising for the trip and the charity was organised by the students.
