A LISTED church and barn are among nine historic buildings in Wales to benefit from a share of more than £240,000 funding.
Croft Farm Barn in Monmouthshire and Saron Church in Blaenau Gwent have been awarded a total of £45,000 in Welsh Government grants to carry out essential repairs and restoration.
The grade II-listed barn is an important timber frame structure and a rare example of this type of construction but it is a vulnerable building type and is now in a vulnerable condition. The building will be used as a base for training for growing grapes and wine production. The £20,000 grant will be used towards repairs to the roof.
Saron Church in Tredegar is a grade II-listed building that is used as a foodbank and Community First centre. The £25,000 funding will be used to remove and replace the outside render.
John Griffiths, the minister for culture and sport, said: “These grants will ensure that some of our most important buildings are restored and maintained for the enjoyment of future generations.”
He added: “Projects like this are key to keeping our past alive as well as boosting the local economy in the future and play a very important role in selling Wales and its culture to the world."
