ELEVEN people have been sentenced following a brawl in Chepstow town centre last December.

At 8.55pm on December 8, a group from Pontypool and one from Lydney in Gloustershire, were involved in fight on Welsh Street outside Mythos Bar and The Kings Head.

Although one man was knocked unconscious, there were no serious injuries.

Four of those sentenced were Pontypool men Luke Osmond, 22, of Orchard Close, Trevethin, Robert Jackson, 21, of Waunddu, Pontnewynydd, Shane Simons, 36, of Hillside Drive and Leon Jones, 21, of College Road.

All four appeared at Cardiff Crown Court after pleading guilty to affray in July.

Osmond was given 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £100 in costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Jackson, Simons and Jones were each given 24 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, 200 hours of unpaid work, ordered to pay £200 in costs and a £80 victim surcharge.

A further two Pontypool men were sentenced for their involvement.

Frederick Morgan, 47, of College Road, Pontypool, had earlier pleaded guilty to a section four public order offence, and was ordered to pay £350 and a £35 victim surcharge.

Thomas Matthews, 23, of Snatchwood Road, Abersychan, had earlier pleaded guilty to a section four public order offence, and was ordered to pay a £350 fine, £100 in costs, and a £35 victim surcharge. For an additional charge of possession of a small amount of cocaine he was given a 12 month conditional discharge.

Recorder Christopher Clee QC said: “On December 8 last year all of you were out in two separate groups. All of you had had far too much to drink. There followed a disgraceful incident.

“All of you actively engaged in what became a street fight.

“Perhaps unusually you are all in employment and your references speak of you very highly. These offences were out of character for all of you.”

Five other defendants of Lydney, Gloucestershire, also pleaded guilty to affray and were sentenced.

Arron Haddock, 19, of Harrison Way, and Billy Turley, 21, of Summerleaze, and Katie Dawson, 27, of Par Four Lane were each sentenced to 40 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months, 200 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £100 in costs and a £100 victim surcharge.

Jason Trattles, 21, of Queen Street, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, 200 hours of unpaid work, £100 in costs and a £80 victim surcharge.

Leanne Huyton, 25, of Leaze Court, was given 40 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months, £100 in costs and a £100 victim surcharge. She is not required to carry out unpaid work as she is currently pregnant and has a child.

Another Lydney man, Alix Haddock, 21, of Harrison Way, will be sentenced at a later date.
