AN Ebbw Vale man was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for a money laundering offence.
Eugene Jenkins, 27, of Waen Heulog, previously pleaded guilty to the offence on August 9.
The court heard how Jenkins was sentenced to imprisonment in 2007 for trafficking class A drugs for three years, and his car was sold under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
However, Jenkins purchased the vehicle back for just over £20,000, which sparked police to start making inquiries into his income.
In court, his income was described as money from benefits that he wasn’t entitled, not paying tax on earnings and the sale of steroids.
Recorder Judge Eleri Rees heard how Jenkins started using cocaine in 2007 and started selling drugs to pay for it.
While in prison he used his time wisely and was recognised for good behaviour.
It was while serving his sentence that he started using the gym and then continued upon his release.
It was then that he was introduced to steroids and he saw this as an opportunity.
Upon sentencing him on September 20 at Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Rees said: "The money was criminal property and it was used to buy a car."
He was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.
