A REPLICA drum made in a Newport workshop, will soon be appearing on a Broadway stage.
Marcus Music, which manufactures and repairs drums and concertinas, was contacted by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Dave Cox, who works at the workshop in Tredegar House Newport, said: “They called and said, ‘we need a drum and we need it pretty quickly’.
“We make drums of all shapes and sizes.
“We’ve made quite a few drums for them before.”
The drum in question is a copy of a rope-tension long drum from the 1400s and will be used on a New York Broadway stage by actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Mr Cox said: “Any drum that gets used for a performance - we are very happy about.
“But we’re especially happy this one gets to go to New York.”
The drum was shipped to The Globe Theatre, London, yesterday before making the transatlantic trip to New York.
