STAFF from Melin Homes have answered a call for help by donating clothing to make their jobseekers look the part at interview.

Melin’s employment team, Melin Works, sent out a plea to their fellow colleagues after realising that some of the jobseekers they work with were struggling to afford that all-important interview outfit.

The team works with residents and members of the community to help boost people’s skills and employability through training and work experience.

Their vast experience in the field means they have become familiar with many of the obstacles faced by people looking for work.

When looking for a job in an increasingly competitive marketplace, they recognised that first impressions really do count.

They also understood that for jobseekers this often comes at price – which is something already over-stretched pockets may struggle to afford.

To help solve this problem, the team recently held a donation day called dress for success in the Melin offices, asking staff to give their unwanted smart clothing for a good cause.

Staff from the local landlord answered the call for help in impressive style, donating mountains of suits, piles of shirts and skirts, and a plethora of ties. As a thank-you, staff were rewarded with a cup cake.

As a result, people working with the team who are in need of an outfit can now take their pick of a selection of interview attire from the Melin Works’ wardrobe, as well as benefiting from employment advice and guidance from the team.

Melin Homes chief executive Mark Gardner said: “This bank of clothing will prove to be a vital resource for our residents who are looking for work and we are pleased that we can help give them the best chance possible at interview.”
