HUNDREDS of people turned up to the last event of the season at Newport's Transporter Bridge yesterday.

Children turned out in fancy dress for the bridges last open day event –Pirates and Princesses Day, which saw children aged two to six walk over the bridge in aid of British Heart Foundation.

Children took part in a fancy dress competition to name the best dressed pirate and princess and staff and parents joined win the fun with games and dancing to mystic played by a D.J.

Visitors also tried out their musical skills with karaoke sessions and dined on chicken kebabs along with tea and coffee.

Chris Jones of Friends of Newport Transport Bridge said: “The Bridge will close until next year and so this is the last event until it reopens.

“This is the first time that we have done an event like this but we are hoping to do more when the bridge reopens next year, as it went really well and the children looked really cute in their outfits.”
