GWENT’S only independent art gallery is hosting an exhibition featuring work by some of the very best artists from Wales.

Barnabas Arts House, New Ruperra Street, Newport, is hosting work by Welsh artists including David Bellamy and Jamie Routley, as part of an exhibition called ‘Welsh Country Views’. The three- week show by the Campaign for Protection of Rural Wales is the third annual landscape art exhibition, which will run until October 11. And in addition, visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in master classes given by Jantien Powell, well-known for her interpretations of the Welsh countryside and country life, this Friday, from 11am-1pm.

Barnabas Arts House owner Janet Martin, 59, of Newport, said: “This is the third annual exhibition staged by the CPRW, who hire the gallery, and it is growing in popularity and in the calibre of the artists whose work is displayed.

“Artists include David Bellamy, who is the author of countless books on water colour painting and the astounding exhibitor Jamie Routley, whose portrait is in the National Portrait gallery.

“There is a range of styles and ages of artists with ages ranging from 20-80.”

The exhibition is open Tuesday-Friday, from 9.30am-4.30pm daily, and Saturday 9.30am to 1pm. For more information call 01633 673739 or 264581. Or visit www.barnabasartshouse.co.uk
