ANOTHER poor Ynysddu Welfare performance results in a very disappointing loss.
After a draw against table toppers Cefn Fforest in their last outing, the Welfare went into this game with the confidence that they could finally get their first three points of the season.
The squad was severely depleted due to injuries and holidays but they still traveled with a strong team.
The game got off to the worst possible start. The Welfare took the kick off and played the ball back to Tony Davies, who needlessly gave the ball away and Mardy played two passes and put the ball into the back of the net.
To the Welfare's credit they responded very well and spent the next 30 minutes dominating the game. Chances were going begging but Ynysddu were playing some nice football and were on top.
With 20 minutes on the clock the Welfare had a free kick 30 yards out. Ben Murphy stood over it and with some quick thinking, slid Daniel Coles in down the side of the wall. Coles made no mistake and slotted the ball home.
The Welfare continued to dominate but as another attack was building, they got hit on the counter-attack. Mardy made the Welfare pay as the midfielder raced through, rounded keeper Luke Morgan and put the ball into the empty net. 2-1 The Welfare couldn't quite belief they were 2-1 down at half time and needed to show some fight in the second half to get the much needed three points.
The second half started slowly and both sides were showing why they were down the bottom end of the table with sloppy passing and confidence looking very low.
A long throw into the box was called for by keeper Luke Morgan, as he claimed the ball he was clattered by the centre half. He lost the ball on his landing and it fell to the foot of the centre-half who tapped home. 3-1 The Welfare were not getting the rub of the green and this was highlighted two minutes later when they had an identical situation to Mardy's third. A corner was claimed by the keeper under challenge from Nicholas Thomas, he lost the ball and rather than it dropping to a Welfare player. It hit the defender on the back and went to safety.
With 15 minutes left a moment of brilliance brought the visitors level. Jack Pewtner picked the ball up in midfield, dummied past two defenders and curled the ball from 30 yards with his weaker left foot into the top corner.
A brilliant piece of skill and a goal that deserved to win a football match at any level. 3-2 The Welfare pressed hard to get level and with seven minutes left should had been level. A Jack Pewtner pass from midfield played Ben Murphy through. With a three-on-one situation, Murphy waited for the defender to come and cut the ball back to Daniel Coles. With the goal at his mercy Coles struck his shot over the bar.
The Welfare will be extremely disappointed to come away with nothing but again they didn't do enough during the game to win 3 points. 3 very sloppy goals conceded cost us the game.
