POLICE have finished searching a Newport farm at the centre of a slavery probe and have said items uncovered in the dig will now be assessed for evidential value.
Police have been at the scene of Cariad Farm, Peterstone, for more than a week, acting on a tip-off that a body may be buried there.
Tonight, Gwent Police have said that while no human remains have been recovered, "the search has led to the discovery of items which will be assessed for evidential value in conjunction with the Crown Prosecution service."
As part of the Operation Imperial investigation Thomas Doran, 36, Daniel Doran, 66, and David Daniel Doran, 42, have been charged with false imprisonment, conspiracy to hold a person in servitude and conspiracy to require a person to perform forced or compulsory labour.
Thomas Doran has also been charged with kidnapping.
Four other people arrested in relation slavery and servitude related offences have been bailed pending further inquiries.
The two men, a 58-year-old from Poland and a 60-year-old UK resident, who were taken from the Peterstone address and another address in the St Brides area are now returning to their respective families.
Detective Superintendent Paul Griffiths who is leading Operation Imperial said: “Since Monday September 23, officers and staff have been at the site in the Peterstone and I’m very grateful to the public for their support and understanding.
“I’m also very grateful to those people who have taken the time to contact us with information in relation to this on-going investigation. I continue to appeal to anyone who may have any information to contact us by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 66 23/09/13.”
