Newport Greenpeace activist Anthony Perrett at a previous appearance in court in Murmansk
THE Newport Greenpeace activist Anthony Perrett has been officially charged with piracy today.
Mr Perrett is one of 30 Greenpeace activists held when armed Russian officials boarded their vessel, the Arctic Sunrise after they tried to board an oil rig in the sea of Murmansk.
Greenpeace is campaigning against attempts by companies to drill for oil in the waters of the Arctic.
Mr Perrett is a former Caldicot Town Council councillor.
