FAMILY members charged with holding a man captive and enslaving him over more than a decade are set to stand trial next spring.
Brothers Thomas Doran, 36, David Doran, 41, and their dad Daniel Doran, 65, are charged with holding Darrell Simester against his will and forcing him into slavery between 2000 and 2013.
The trio face a string of charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment, requiring Mr Simester to do forced labour and conspiring to hold him in slavery in Newport.
Their legal representatives appeared before Cardiff Crown Court for a preliminary hearing yesterday.
Defence barrister, Stephen Clarke, is representing Daniel Doran, solicitor advocate Ed Mitchard is acting on behalf of Thomas Doran while barrister Gideon Cammerman represents David Doran.
Judge Eleri Rees set the provisional date for a trial on March 19 next year with pleas to be entered on December 12, 2013.
Thomas Doran, of Shirenewton Caravan Site, Wentloog Road, Cardiff, is charged with kidnapping Mr Simester between August 11, 2000, and September 1, 2000.
He is also charged with conspiring to hold Mr Simester in slavery on February 1, 2013.
The defendant is also accused of false imprisonment against Mr Simester by assaulting and injuriously imprisoning him between August 11, 2000, and March 1, 2013.
He is also charged with conspiring to require him to perform unskilled forced labour at Peterstone between April 6, 2010, and March 1, 2013.
David Doran, of Cariad Farm, off Wentloog Avenue, Peterstone, is charged with conspiring to hold Mr Simester in slavery in Newport between April 6, 2010, and March 1, 2013.
He is also charged with conspiring to require Mr Simester to do forced labour in Newport between April 6, 2012, and March 1 this year.
The defendant also faces a charge of false imprisonment against Darell Simester in Newport between August 8, 2000, and March 1, 2013.
Daniel Doran, 65, of Cariad Farm, off Wentloog Avenue, Peterstone, is charged with conspiring to hold Mr Simester in slavery in Newport between April 4, 2010, and March 1, 2013.
He is also charged with false imprisonment against Mr Simester in Newport between August 10, 2000, and March 1, 2013.
He also faces a charge of conspiring to require Mr Simester to perform forced labour in Newport between April 6, 2010, and March 1, 2013.
The defendants were remanded in custody.
