THE mayor of Chepstow, Cllr Stephanie Dovey, opened Gateway Credit Union’s new office in Bulwark on September 28.

Cllr Stephanie Dovey was on hand to help Gateway, which has been in the town since 2010.

It will now be able to offer a wider range of services in its own premises at 50A Bulwark Rd, Chepstow, next to Kibby’s Chip Shop.

Gateway Credit Union has more than 2,000 members across Torfaen and Monmouthshire and offers convenient savings products and flexible, affordable loans. It now offers competitive cash ISA and children’s accounts, as well as savings accounts for Christmas, holidays and all other purposes.

Gateway has recently launched its discounted Partner Loans for council, health and housing association staff, repaying direct from their pay.

Chairman of the Credit Union, Reverend Canon Brian Pippen welcomed visitors to the new office for refreshments.

The new office has been made possible by support from Monmouthshire Housing Association and Monmouthshire council, who offered the empty shop.

Funding came from Chepstow Town Council and Monmouthshire council.

Manager John Richards said “It’s been a busy summer turning an empty butchers shop into a Credit Union branch, but we’re now ready to welcome new and existing members. With the weather turning, we’re already getting enquiries for loans for Christmas, as well as lots of new savers. Everyone these days needs to watch their budget, and the Credit Union is going from strength to strength as a result”.

The new branch will initially open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-4pm. Gateway also opens in Caldicot One Stop Shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-noon.
