A MAN from Pill has been selected as the candidate for Plaid Cymru in the forthcoming by-election in the Newport ward.
Khalilur Rahman, who grew up in the ward and lives with his family on South Market Street, said he was privileged to be selected.
“I will endeavour to work hard on behalf of all sectors of the community, pushing for improvements and fighting in your corner,“ he said.
Nominations for the election, called after the death of Labour party stalwart Cllr Ron Jones, closed on Friday.
Zafar “Tony” Ismail for the Tories, Paul Halliday for the Liberal Democrats and Omar Ali for Labour are also running in the Thursday, October 31, Newport City Council poll.
Applications to register to vote must be with the council no later than October 16, and should be sent to Electoral Registration Officer, Room 528, Civic Centre, Godfrey Road, Newport, NP20 4UR.
Postal votes must be requested from the above address by October 16 and applications for proxy votes should be in by October 23.
Applications to vote by proxy on the grounds of physical incapacity that occurs after 5pm on October 23 must reach the electoral registration officer by 5pm on October 31.
