A CWMBRAN swimming club is in with the chance of winning a £3,000 award.
Cwmbran Otters Swimming Club has been shortlisted for a Lloyd’s bank community award. It is one of four community groups nominated from the Torfaen area.
The club, which trains at Cwmbran stadium, has around 100 members from age seven upwards and is run solely off volunteers.
Gerald Sims, has been a coach at the club for 27 years. His four daughters have gone through the club and now his grandchildren are members. He said: “It’s a passion. I just love it up there with the kids.”
If they won, Mr Sims said the prize money would go towards further training courses for coaches and teachers to allow the club to get more people involved.
The club are now relying on the public to vote for them. by text, online or in the bank branch.
The club celebrated one of their biggest successes in May of this year when they won Cotswold League.
Mr Sims said: “We were the first welsh club to bring the trophy back over the bridge.
Voting opened on September 25 and will end November 1.
