A WOMAN is warning other dog owners after she said she suffered the trauma of watching her 12-week-old puppy being killed by another dog.

Charlotte Cameron, 25, of Malpas, said she was out walking her Jack Russell-cross Lilly May on a public footpath at White Barn Farm, Rhiwderin, Newport, when it was attacked by a greyhound.

She said the greyhound came out of nowhere, grabbed the puppy and shook it by its neck and ran off with it during the attack, which happened at around 6.30pm on September 28.

Miss Cameron, who also had her other dog, a Podenco named Tia, with her at the time, ran after the greyhound, but said by the time the dog had let go of the puppy it had died.

Miss Cameron was on the walk with her friend, who has two Jack Russells, and said that the greyhound then tried to bite her friend on the calf, but due to her friend wearing leather riding boots, she did not suffer any injuries.

Ms Cameron also knocked herself out during the ordeal, after running to help her friend and falling down some large steps.

She said: “It was awful. I tried giving mouth to mouth to Lilly May but her neck had snapped. But I had to try.

“I keep seeing it everywhere I look.”

Miss Cameron said she was worried that the dog was still in the area and wanted to warn other dog owners.

She said she had contacted the police about the incident and said they had told her they were investigating.

She said the owner of the dog had offered to pay for the cremation of Lilly May.
