TWO men arrested as part of a shooting in Newport have been released by police.

The men from Cardiff, aged 22 and 24, who were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs in the wake of a shooting in Chepstow Road last month have been released with no further action being taken.

Police were called at 11.30pm on September 3, just after bar workers at the Cross Hands Hotel, in Chepstow Road, had called last orders.

Two men have already appeared in court charged with three counts of attempted murder each. Brogan Hooper, 20, of no fixed address, and Lewis Bridge, 22, of Nash Drive, Newport, are both due to enter pleas at Crown Court on November 22. Both of the men have been remanded in custody.

Two men, aged 22 and 24 from the Newport area, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident, remain on police bail pending further inquiries.

Officers are continuing to make enquiries to locate the firearm used in the incident in Chepstow Road, as well as a dark coloured 4x4-type vehicle that was seen driving along Chepstow Road and onto Beechwood Road in the direction of St Julians and Christchurch.

Anyone in the area between 11pm and midnight on September 3 who has information relating to the vehicle or the incident, should call 101 quoting log 586 03/09/13 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555.
