TEDDIES of all shapes and sizes visited a special teddy bear 'hospital' in Monmouth.

Teddy bears were brought to the make-shift hospital, which was visiting The Roundhouse on The Kymin, on Sunday where teddy-repair experts, Janice and Mike Waters were on hand to make repairs, give advice or even date an antique teddy bear for their owners.

The Clytha-based couple, who run The Wellfield Teddy Bear Hospital, visit the National Trust-run monument overlooking Monmouth town, three-times a year.

They specialize in sympathetic, museum quality conservation, repairs and restoration to vintage and antique Teddy Bears.

Among the repairs they carried out to the bears, some of whom were brought from as far awa as Port Talbot, included repairing their eyes and paw pads which had worn away.

Custodian, Sara Swzer, said: “We have been holding the event regularly since 2011 and see an incredible variety of bears and soft toys coming from all over the country.”

“We had a teddy bear owner as young as six years old visit and the oldest was in their 70s so the event doesn’t just attract children,” she added.

Visitors also browsed an exhibition of bears through the ages, which included Custodian, Sara Swzer’s First World War nurse bear,

Custodian, Sara Swzer said: “The exhibition, which was held just for the day, told the history of the teddy bear and the real stories behind well-known fictional bear’s such as Paddington Bear.”
