CATERING industry supplier 3663 could be moving into Chepstow creating up to 160 jobs, if its plan gets the green light.

Its new home, subject to planning permission, would be a large unit on the Newhouse Farm Industrial Estate, housing food which would be distributed to places like schools, hospitals, restaurants and hotels. Deputy leader of Monmouthshire council Bob Greenland was pressed by Cllr Armand Watts at the most recent full council meeting: “I would assume the jobs would be in my ward. I know nothing about it.” The council said it would be keeping quiet on the number of jobs due to “commercial confidentiality”. However, the planning application form reveals 160 people could be employed for 3663. It is not known if these are new positions.

3663 currently has 23 depots and four regional distribution centres across the UK. Its nearest units are on the Severnbridge Industrial Estate, Caldicot and Avonmouth.

The Free Press asked 3663, a trading name of BFS Group Limited, if there would be an impact on these sites, and more details about plans.

A spokeswoman said: “At this stage this is an outline planning application made on behalf of the BFS Group Ltd. Whilst no detailed business decisions have been made for any future development within the area, we are seeking additional capacity due to business growth in the South Wales region. BFS Group Ltd are therefore unable to confirm any detailed plans for the site mentioned at this present time.”
