A FATHER-of-two caught with £23,000-worth of the party drug “meow meow” at his home, as well as notebooks containing the details of drug deals, was given a 30-month jail sentence.
Jamie Williams, 30, formerly of Glyndwr Road in Rassau, Ebbw Vale, but now living in Coronation Street, Six Bells, admitted having cocaine, mephedrone - known as “meow meow” - and 16 cannabis plants, but only admitted intending to supply cocaine and mephedrone a year later.
At Newport Crown Court yesterday, Nuhu Gobir, prosecuting, said on August 2 last year police raided a house on Eureka Place, Ebbw Vale.
They found the defendant with a 4.23g bag of mephedrone, and elsewhere 13.81g of cocaine mixed with cutting agents with a value of up to £840. There was also £385 cash, electronic scales and mobile phones.
Police found 42.15g of mephedrone in a popcorn tub, and in the basement, two notebooks containing names and amounts of money.
In a metal safe, they found 812g of mephedrone, which could be sold in street deals worth up to £23,200, and separately 11g of mephedrone, and 9.54g of ketamine and mephedrone.
In another room they found 16 cannabis plants and an eight inch cannabis plant outside in the garden.
Williams was arrested and taken to Ystrad Mynach police station where he claimed all the substances were for his own use.
He was interviewed again on December 18 and it wasn’t until September 13 this year, before trial, that he admitted intending to supply the drugs.
Harry Baker, mitigating, said in Williams’ police interview, officers stated he was not a “huge drug dealer” and only sold drugs to fund his own habit.
“He is not a Mr Big,” said Mr Baker, who added Williams, a father-of-two and carer for his partner’s two children, started taking drugs after an injury left him unable to work.
Williams was sentenced to 30 months in prison for possessing cocaine with intent to supply, which he will serve half.
He was also sentenced to 14 months concurrent for possessing mephedrone with intent to supply; six months concurrent for producing 16 cannabis plants; three months concurrent for possessing cannabis; and six months concurrent for possessing ketamine. Judge Huw Rees ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs and paraphernalia.
