SIX lifesize mannequins that include a policeman, werewolf and a zombie failed to attract a buyer at an auction in Chepstow.

The mannequins, complete with costumes, were one of the most unusual collections to go under the hammer at Severnside Auctions in Bulwark on Saturday.

The only mannequin, which sold for £45 to a local man, was the She-Devil but auction house owner, Dean James, 48, hopes the others will attract a buyer at the next auction.

He said: “There was quite a lot of interest in them and a few bids made. The buyer, who is a regular customer, thought the mannequins were quirky and took the She-Devil to keep it at home and use for parties.”

The owner, David Giles, 47, bought the dummies on eBay four years ago and dressed them using clothes from charity shops.

Mr Giles, of Mynyddbach, near Chepstow, created an ‘army of darkness’ to use as targets at shows and fetes, including at Shirenewton and Crick. He would set up a cannonball on his 15-tonne mechanical infantry vehicle and let people fire tennis balls at the targets.

Speaking before the auction, Mr Giles said: “It provided good fun for people, family and friends but the most popular target was the skeleton speed cop.”

The mannequins will feature in the next auction, at 10.30am on October 26.
