PUPILS at a Cwmbran primary pupil enjoyed free meals last week, as part of a promotional activity.
Ysgol Gymraeg, in Henllys Way, St Dials, worked with Torfaen’s catering team, which undertakes all cooking at the school.
Head teacher Edward Wyn Jones said it was an opportunity to encourage more pupils to enjoy the range of warm and healthy options on offer in the canteen.
He said: “I am a firm believer that the food on offer is excellent and well-balanced.
“It wasn’t always the case, but over the last four to five years it has really improved.
“I was a bit concerned earlier in the year at the number of pupils bringing in packed lunches, so we decided to do a free promotional day for all pupils and staff.”
Mr Jones also said Sharon Masterton, from Torfaen catering, had spoken with parents earlier in the year and showed them examples of the menu available.
He added of the event last week: “I think everyone enjoyed. It was a big success.”
School dinners at Ysgol Gymraeg are typically £1.85 for the foundation phase and £1.95 for juniors.
