A WOMAN has died and a woman has been arrested after a crash in Ponthir last night.

Joyce Drew and a man, both 86 and from Ponthir were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with serious injuries, where she later died.

The man is still in hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition.

A 20-year-old woman from the Ponthir area has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.

The incident happened close to the village hall on the B4236 Caerleon Road at about 7.30pm.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 411 13/11/13.
