Over the last few weeks, I have begun to realise that for babies the world is full of endless possibilities and if fate does not intervene, futures as daredevils, stuntmen, lion tamers and fire walkers could beckon.

The term ‘once bitten twice shy’ is one that many infants have no concept of if they have not yet been bitten and until they do so, they will continue to breeze fearlessly through life.

Teilo whoops for joy and shows no fear when I swing him upside down or throw him in the air. Similarly, his current favourite interest is jabbing things with his finger and he enthusiastically pokes my mother-in-law’s horse and pet dog in their mouths.

Of course, it will only take me accidentally dropping him or either Smokey the dog or Frank the horse to bite his little fingers to change all that.

Until that happens, Teilo falls very firmly into the category of ‘never bitten, not shy of anything’ and he continues to exhibit the fearless attitude of someone who could one day boldly go where few are brave enough to tread.

But, it seems that even budding super hero babies have their Kryptonite. When Teilo was younger it was the sound of hair dryers that reduced him to floods of tears. In recent times, it is the sudden shock of a high-pitched, shriek-like sneeze that is his undoing.

So, maybe Teilo is not as tough as he appears. Not that I really wanted the worry of him becoming a lion tamer or stuntman anyway.

No, I’ll settle for a Welsh rugby International. However, I’m not quite sure how many bites that would take.
