A FUNDRAISING clay shoot in Gwent has raised more than £6000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).
The annual Chocolate Salty Clay Shoot at St Dials Farm was held on Tuesday November 12 – and proved one of the most successful to date.
Thirty children braved the elements for the charity day, which has supported the TCT Skypad Unit in Cardiff for more than twenty years.
The youngsters were given a training session by Nigel Hart and the team at Hart Events Shooting Ground, who donate their time free of charge and sponsored the cost of the shoot.
They were also treated to a midday lunch of hot chocolate and cakes donated by Greggs, Monmouth, before the competition shoot ensued in much improved conditions.
Chairwoman Nienke Manns presented the prizes, trophies and medals to the winners at the end of the day, along with a cheque to the charity.
In total, £6,250 was raised by the event.
Debbie Jones, TCT regional fundraising manager for South Wales said: “The Chocolate Salty shoot team raised thousands of pounds to initially help to build the unit. Their ongoing support enables us to continue providing the vital services offered at the unit. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer. On behalf of Teenage Cancer Trust I would like to sincerely thank Nienke and her team for running the event and of course a massive thank you and congratulations also goes to the group who braved the terrible weather and took part in the competition on the day.”
All money raised by the Chocolate Salty Clay Shoot, and other TCT supporters, goes towards the maintenance of the specialist unit based at the University Hospital of Wales.
It also funds specialist staff and supports free cancer awareness sessions the charity runs in schools, colleges and universities across the region.
