NEWPORT newly-weds Andy and Liz Turner are celebrating all over again after winning £68,525 prize in the Lotto.
The couple, who live in Maesglas, married earlier this year and matched five numbers and the bonus ball in the National Lottery Lotto draw on Saturday 2 November - but didn’t realise they had won until the following Wednesday. The couple were doing the weekly supermarket shop when they discovered the win.
Mrs Turner said: “We took the ticket to the National Lottery terminal where they calmly told us we had won a prize but could not pay it out because it was more than £500. We rang Camelot straight away to discover we were £68,525 richer and, at that point, we just could not stop laughing.”
Mr Turner, 42, originally from Cardiff, works as a windscreen technician while Mrs Turner, 39, is a team leader at the Cardiff Road Tesco store. The couple have three children and were married this summer at the Newport Hilton hotel.
Although they play the Lotto regularly, the pair had recently chosen new numbers to represent all the family birthdays but actually won on a Lucky Dip ticket.
They celebrated their win by taking the children to Frankie and Benny’s restaurant, but have not started any serious spending yet. They are looking forward to a special Christmas and plan to take a holiday in the New Year with the whole family.
Liz said: “My mother actually passed away two weeks before our wedding so, we’ve had quite a difficult year. This win means that we can have the fresh start that we were hoping for.”
Andy added: “The win has really taken some of the weight off our shoulders. We’re both planning to have some time off over Christmas so we can enjoy it with the children and make it really special.”
Mr Turner bought the winning Lotto ticket from the Spar shop on Cardiff Road in Newport.
