A 48-YEAR-OLD man must wear an electronic ankle tag after racially abusing workers at an Abergavenny kebab shop.

Robert Paxton of St David's Road, Abergavenny, faced two charges against him at Newport Magistrates' Court yesterday. Paxton pleaded guilty to one count of theft and another of causing racially aggravated fear and provoking violence.

On October 7 at around 11.30pm, Paxton had entered Family Kebabs on Frogmore Street. The court heard how Paxman asked for free food, but was declined. He continued to ask and when the owners asked him to leave, he spat at Suat Celik and became aggressive. He then swore and shouted racial abuse at the owners who are of Turkish origin.

The count of theft referred to a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whisky, worth £26, which Paxton stole from a Tesco store in Abergavenny on October 11.

Paxton was given a 12-month court order and must wear an electronic tag for 56 days, preventing him from leaving his home between 8pm and 6am. He is also required to attend sessions for alcohol misuse and is banned from entering Family Kebabs for one year.
