CALDICOT Town Football Club is waging a war against anti-social behaviour at its ground with a £3,000 cover to stop youths getting in its stand after the final whistle.
Drug taking paraphernalia, including a needle, has been found at the King George V playing fields over the past few weeks, the latest example of anti-social activities which have been plaguing the club for about eight months.
During that time a wall was knocked down and graffiti was sprayed, so the club has decided to take action, to stop troublemakers getting in.
Around half the money has been raised for a cover to go over the stand, thanks to a recent donation by Monmouthshire council's Severnside area committee.
In August we reported how the ground was shut temporarily after a player was badly cut by glass left on the pitch.
Frank Rowberry from Caldicot Town said: "It just came to a head then. I think the cover is vital, if we don't get it this is going to go on and on."
Mr Rowberry said the cover would secure games, as the club would not have to deal with the mess left behind.
The town council and mayor Alan Davies have been involved in the project, which seeks sponsors and grants for the rest of the money.
