THOUSANDS of people packed into Cwmbran town centre to welcome the start of the Christmas festivities at the light switch on event.
At 6pm on Wednesday, Cwmbran Shopping was lit up ready for Christmas and people enjoyed an evening of music provided by Gwent Music Support Service.
Children and young people between the ages of 7 and 18 entertained the crowds at locations around the centre.
In Monmouth Square combined Primary School’s delivered a brass ensemble made up of Blaenavon Heritage Primary, Victoria Primary, George Street Primary and Maindy Primary.
Then followed performances from Torfaen Music Centre Choir, Greater Gwent Youth Choir and children’s entertainer Dingle Fingle.
Santa and his elves joined a sing song before inviting children to visit their Christmas Grotto.
In Gwent Square there were performances from Torfaen Music Centre Senior Wind Band, Christmas songs from Cwmbran’s John Adams who appeared on the X Factor in 2011 and the Congress Youth Theatre performed Fairytale Folk
The winner of the Creative Kids Design a Light Competition Taylor Deeley took to the stage, while Capital FM’s Matt Lissack switched the lights on, before a communal sing song of We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
Performances from Torfaen Music Centre Senior Wind Band, Chwarae Teg Celtic Band and Greater Gwent Youth Brass Ensemble followed.
