PREPARATIONS were made yesterday for Abergavenny's Advent to Candlemas Festival of Flowers.
The pre-Christmas event, organised by the town's flower arrangement society and friends, looks at the four seasons which tell of the Lord’s incarnation.
These are Advent, Christmas, Epiphany and Candlemas.
Light is the common thread that runs through these seasons and it is highlighted by candles featuring largely in the displays.
More than 70 floral arrangements have lit up St Mary's Priory, including wreaths, interpretations of carols such as 'We three Kings' and a decorative wall hanging.
They have each been sponsored and the money will go towards the renovation of the Lewis Chapel.
Named after the tomb of Dr David Lewis, it was the home of the organ until the nineties.
It is now back in use, but work needs to be done to its roof, drains, external entrance and glass panel walls.
A centrepiece of the chapel will be a stained glass window, a memorial to the late Rev Jeremy Winston.
The chapel will be used for smaller services including funerals and prayer meetings.
Father Mark Soady thanked all those who have contributed to the festival: "It is wonderful to see this ancient house of prayer brought to life in floral arrangements," he said.
The festival runs from November 21 to 26 and admission is £6.
For the times, see the church's website.
This event is supported by Abergavenny Town Council and Monmouthshire council.
