A PARALYMPIC champion from Cwmbran who died earlier this year is to be honoured by Torfaen Leisure Trust.
One of the function suites at Cwmbran Stadium is to be re-named after Chris Hallam MBE, who won medals at three consecutive Paralympic Games, in 1988, 1992 and 1996.
Mr Hallam, who was in his late 40s, died in August this year after a battle with cancer.
A spokesperson for Torfaen Leisure Trust said: “As a tribute and in recognition of Chris’ dedication to the world of sport, Torfaen Leisure Trust will be commemorating the life of Chris Hallam by renaming the Henllys Suite at Cwmbran Stadium to the Hallam Suite.”
A former Llantarnam School student, he won the London Marathon twice, setting course records in both 1985 and 1987.
He also competed for Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, in 1994.
A ‘renaming ceremony’ will be held on Wednesday, December 11, at 11am in Cwmbran Stadium.
