AN annual event to commemorate Carers' Rights Day is being hosted by Monmouthshire County Council at Llangybi’s Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel next week.
The event, for all carers in the county, is being held on November 28 to inform unpaid carers about their rights and what help is available from local authorities, health and voluntary organisations. This year’s theme is 'rights, advice, support', focusing on ensuring that carers understand their rights and receive access to good quality advice that can support them to care.
It is estimated that 9,500 people have a caring role in Monmouthshire, many of whom would not necessarily identify themselves as carers. Cabinet member for Social Care and Health, Cllr Geoff Burrows said: “We are well aware of the important role that carers take in supporting people in their charge, especially the quality of care they give and by their efforts the contribution and support they indeed pass on to the wider economy. Carers continue to be a top priority for us in Monmouthshire.”
