ONE of Newport’s favourite butchers is starting an exciting new chapter today.
AD Turner and Sons Butchers, who have long been in Newport market, have also been serving their produce, cooked and ready to eat, from the kiosk in High Street in front of the market for more than 14 years.
Last Wednesday was the final day of trading in the kiosk, before it gets knocked down by the council – but today they reopen in their new premises at the front of the refurbished market.
Patrick Turner, the third generation in his family of butchers, has run the kiosk since 1999 and said: “We’re looking forward to moving forward."
The shop will be offering at least six varieties of the butcher’s award-winning homemade sausages plus heart-warming baguettes, as well as pulled pork, roast beef, stuffing and a range of salads.
“We can do a much bigger variety of food. We’ve trebled, if not quadrupled our range,” said Mr Turner.
“We wanted to do traditional stuff like faggots and peas too.”
Mr Turner and his staff were working hard over the weekend to get the place ready for Monday.
“It’s looking good,” Mr Turner said. The shop will include a seating area for more than 20 people.
The kiosk’s late night hours, that fed many party-goers up to 5am, are set to continue too.
“We’ll hopefully keep that going,” said Mr Turner.
“I loved the kiosk and it was devastating to see it go. But now we’ve got a bigger shop with bigger facilities and can do a lot more things.”
