CHEPSTOW choral society will be presenting its annual Christmas celebration of music and words at St Mary’s Priory Church, Chepstow, on Sunday, December 8 at 3pm.

The society has performed a Christmas concert for the town for more than 30 years and it continues to be a highlight of the choral year.

The concert includes a mixture of choral items and seasonal readings as well as family carols.

This year the society is once again joined by the Dell Primary School singing club, conducted by Hannah Adams and Lizzie Peckham, and a group of Beachley Military Wives Singers, conducted by Marjorie Duerden and accompanied by Val Bailey.

A spokeswoman said: "The concert promises to be a lovely combination of a wide range of Christmas music, with much-loved favourites.

"It will include a brand new carol written by Gareth Treseder, a professional tenor soloist, who will be returning to sing the tenor solos in the forthcoming Messiah in April 2014. "

There will be also be arrangements of popular choral items in the Christmas music repertoire included in the programme, a selection of appropriate readings, and the audience will also have the opportunity to sing several favourite carols with the choirs.

Peter Cook will once again be the organist for the occasion, with Marjorie Duerden on piano and Graham Bull as the society’s musical director.

Tickets are £8 and include a programme, while children, under-18s and students are free.

Tickets are available from Chepstow Bookshop, or through choir members by contacting 01291 650472, 620414 or 623310.
