NEWPORT has been announced as one of the top value store cities in the UK, according to figures released this week.
A RetailVision report by the Callcredit Information Group has shown Newport has 205 (9.51 per cent) value stores out of 17,000 UK retail centres, coming second to Sunderland which has 220 (22.27 per cent). The report used data from more than 17,000 retail centres, containing 200 or more stores, across the UK – including town centres, shopping centres and retail parks.
The report has shown the UK’s largest retail destinations continue to maintain retail revenues, despite increasing competition from online retailers and tough trading conditions.
As a result major retail centres such as Newcastle and Bristol have put further more downward pressure on surrounding smaller towns and local shopping centres.
Chris Duley, director at Callcredit’s GMAP Retail Planning team, said: “Our latest retail reports highlights the opportunities and challenges faced by retail centres up and down the UK.”
