MORE images of what the new Ebbw Vale town centre will look like have been released by Blaenau Gwent council, as improvement work starts on the new bus and taxi interchange.
Last week the council published images of a £2.3 million mechanical link to be built between Ebbw Vale town centre and The Works site.
The latest round of works, which follow changes to footways, highway and public areas, is being carried out by contractor Jim Davies construction in two phases to minimise disruption, with the first being completed before Christmas and the second in the new year, in total lasting 22 weeks.
During the first phase a retaining wall will be built and a road base put down, as well as tree work and fencing to the area of land between the Ex-Servicemen’s Club and the back of the south-bound bus stops.
Access to the site for the contractor will be via the A4046 entrance leading to the club and will not involve any traffic management or major disruption to the A4046 traffic or bus services, the council said.
Phase two will involve road works to the A4046, moving bus stops, street lighting, diverting public utilities, installing traffic lights and putting up new bus stop facilities.
Traffic lights will go up and some work will be undertaken on Sundays to try and reduce congestion, the council said in a statement.
Councillor Graham Bartlett, executive member for development said there will be "significant transformation".
The works is being delivered thanks to European and Welsh Government funding alongside council contributions and private sector investment.
