FIVE community groups in the Newport area will each receive £3,000 from the Lloyd’s Bank Community Fund after more than 150,000 people in South Wales voted for their preferred good cause.
The Ieuan The Lion Memorial Fund, which provides holidays in West Wales for sick and disabled children and their families, along with St David’s Foundation Hospice Care, Ponthir and District Sports Club, Ponthir Junior Football and Rhiwderin Village Meithrin Nursery will all benefit. It is estimated that the organisations help or involve more than 20,000 people. Around 1,330 good causes UK-wide were put forward for the latest round of funding. Sixty-three per cent of votes went to community groups supporting adults.
“Lloyds Bank scaled up the Community Fund considerably in 2013 and in return we have had an incredible response from the public, which has resonated right across the country,” said Graham Lindsay, group director, responsible business, for Lloyds Banking Group.
“Congratulations to every community group that took part, and we look forward to hearing about the difference being involved in the programme has made.”
The following organisations were awarded £300 each as part of the process: Newport Women’s Aid; Pill Harriers Youth RFC; Newport Judo Club; St Anne’s Hospice; Duffryn Community Link; Maes Ebbw School.
