PUPILS from a Newport primary school celebrated National Tree Week at Belle Vue Park by planting trees and showcasing their writing talents.
Pillgwenlly Primary School took part in the writing project, supported by Literature Wales, using trees as their inspiration.
The children read poems they had written to an invited audience which included poet Ric Hool and Louise Richards, South Wales literature development officer.
Ayesha Begum, a nine-year-old pupil at the school, was deemed to have written the best poem and was invited to unveil a plaque marking the park’s status as a Queen Elizabeth ll Field.
A Queen Elizabeth II Field is an outdoor recreational space that is protected to help create a grassroots legacy from the events of 2012.
