PUPILS at a Newport primary school got in the Christmas spirit when they performed their nativity play.

A total of 85 year one and two children performed in Rockin’ Robin Around the World, which used contemporary settings and Bible stories, at St Woolos Primary School on Stow Hill.

Heather Vaughan, the school’s head teacher, said: “Every child had a part in the play and that is really important.

“And what is lovely is that it was a team effort.”

Robin travelled across the world to modern day Hawaii, China, Australia and Scandinavia before travelling back in time to the nativity in Bethlehem.

Year 1 and 2 teachers Hannah Driscoll, Liz Lott, Lucy Davies and Emma Woolford wrote the play.

And support staff Nafeem Bashir, Caryl Jones and Geraldine Parkinson organised props and costumes for it.

About 150 parents watched the performance, which had been rehearsed since October, in the school hall.

The school will also be hosting five other performances over Christmas. There will be a show put on by nursery pupils, a reception nativity, a musical called Tea and Teatowels which will be performed by year three and four pupils, and a Christmas Through the Ages show by those in Years 5 and 6.
