ABERGAVENNY florist Hilary Cooke, of Hilary’s Floral Design, shows you how to create a door wreath for Christmas with her step by step guide.
WHAT you need
X1 wire ring. X1 Reel of floristry wire. Arox X20 Stub wires.
Bag of Moss. Scissors. Secateurs.
Holly or variegated foliages. Cinnamon sticks. Pine Cones. Dried oranges slices and decorative ribbon.
Step 1.
First take your reel of wire and fasten the lose end to the wire ring securely. Then take a hand full of moss and press to one side of the ring and wrap the reel of wire around the moss several times to secure it to the ring. Continue this process all the way around, making sure there are no gaps. Don’t cut the wire, as we are to continue the same process with your foliages.
Step 2.
Cut even lengths of your holly or variegated foliage to approx 10-15cm long. Turn your wire frame over, so that the moss base is facing down on the table. Take your first piece of holly or foliage and gently insert the stem end into the moss base about 1cm, and with the reel of wire secure it to the base, (we are repeating the same process used for the moss.) Layer your foliage all the way around till the circle is complete and full. Once happy, cut the reel of wire and secure the lose end to the frame.
Step 3.
To decorate your wreath, take your pine cones, cinnamon sticks, or anything else you would like to use, and wrap a stub wire around the item and twist at the base to fasten, leaving the wires poking out like a pair of legs. Then simply push the wire legs through the foliage and moss ring and out the other side. By bending the wires back into the moss base, this will secure the decorative items to the wreath.
Repeat this step as many times needed to achieve your desired looked. To finish, why not add a decorative bow.
