A DEDICATED volunteer has nominated Gwent Cat Protection to receive the Community Chest award.
Glynis Davies, 54, co-ordinator of Gwent Cat Protection has nominated the organisation which rescues and rehomes unwanted and abandoned cats in the Gwent area to receive the £500 award.
Set up in 1979, the charity is run by a group of volunteers who give up their spare time to foster, fundraise and, in some cases, rescue cats and kittens.
The organisation also promotes responsible ownership and tries to help with the control of feral colonies through neutering.
The South Wales Argus has teamed up with house builder Taylor Wimpey to offer worthy causes the chance to receive £500 in our Community Chest campaign.
We are inviting you, our readers, to nominate good causes in the Gwent area which you feel are most deserving of this cash award.
Miss Davies said: “I think this charity deserves the award because we are a small, local charity operating entirely with volunteers.
“We rescue and rehome hundreds of unwanted cats and kittens every year in the Gwent area, take in cats and kittens that have been dumped, mistreated, some where owners have been evicted, strays, sometimes injured cats.
“We treat them at local vets and, when they are fully recovered, we vaccinate and microchip them and then find them new homes.
“We also fundraise most weekends to raise much needed funds to support and fund the work we do.”
The organisation has a team of 20 plus active volunteers who fundraise, carry out home visits, produce ‘Mewsletters,’ and update the web site and Facebook sites as well as some volunteers who act as fosterers and look after the cats full time.
“It would be a much appreciated bonus for our volunteers if our charity was selected to receive this award,” Miss Davies added.
Readers have until Sunday, December 15, to put forward their nominations for the Community Chest.
Our editorial team will then produce a shortlist of deserving causes before inviting readers to vote for their favourite.
To nominate a good cause for the Community Chest, email newsdesk@southwalesargus.co.uk with ‘Community Chest nomination’ in the subject line, and include your name, telephone number, details of the organisation you are nominating and why you think it should receive the £500 award.
