A MAN today admitted killing a cyclist who died after coming off his bike in Pontypool.

John Reeder, 63, suffered head injuries in George Street, Pontnewynydd, on August 8 last year.

Casey Coslett, 19, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Reeder at Cardiff Crown Court today [February 3].

His co-defendants Kieran Allcock, 18 and Andrew Vass, 26, pleaded not guilty to Mr Reeder's manslaughter at the hearing.

A fourth defendant Deon Morgan, 19, is also charged with Mr Reeder's unlawful killing.

She appeared at the court via video link from Eastwood Park Prison in Bristol but no plea was entered.

Allcock was bailed and the three other defendants were remanded in custody.

Allcock and Vass are to stand trial on March 31.

Judge Eleri Rees listed the trial for three weeks.

Mr Reeder, of Tan-y-Coed, Pontnewynydd, was found on the roadside after coming off his bicycle at around 6am.

He was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where he later died.

An inquest heard Mr Reeder died of “blunt trauma to the head”.

Mr Reeder, a horse trainer, was a popular figure in the Pontypool area and was regularly seen riding his bike or walking ponies around or at The Pegasus pub in Pontnewynydd.

Mr Reeder was buried at Hollybush cemetery in Cwmbran on December 10.
