MONMOUTHSHIRE County Council has said that it will remain prepared for severe weather conditions that are predicted.

This comes following the authority’s efforts throughout last weekend to support communities in the face of predicted storms and tidal flooding.

Although the county was not as badly affected as other parts of the UK, Tintern suffered some tidal flooding and plummeting temperatures led to the council gritting a substantial number of the county’s roads.

As the weather forecast stays unsettled the council has said that it will “remain prepared” for difficult conditions.

Councillor Bryan Jones, cabinet member for county operations, said: “Fortunately conditions were not as bad as had been predicted.

“But that is scant comfort to those who did suffer from the effects of flooding, heavy rain and wind.

“With further difficult weather conditions predicted, I can assure the people of Monmouthshire that we will continue to be on hand to support them and deal with the effects of wind, rain and tide and much as we can.”
