A NEWPORT man will be pushing through the pain barrier for 13.1 miles next month as he bids to raise money for the hospice that cared for his nan whilst she was ill.

Andrew Davies, 30, has always wanted to give something back to St David’s Hospice Care since they supported his Nan when she died of breast cancer in 2003 - and he’s decided now is the time.

“I’ve always wanted to do a marathon and I just felt inspired this time round,” he said. “My nan was looked after by them when she passed away so it’s great to be able to finally give something back.

“The work they do is fantastic and it helps a lot of people. I’m aiming to raise £500 overall which is a good amount. So far I’ve managed to raise £280 which is a good start.

“I didn’t start training until after Christmas but it’s going alright now. With work and two children it’s hard to always get out but it’s for a worthy cause.”

Mr Davies will be running the marathon with his cousin Alex Dovey, who is also aiming to raise £500 when he runs.
