A FLOOD warning has been given for undefended areas of the River Wye in Monmouth tonight which could see up to 87 houses affected.
According to an update by Natural Resources Wales at 3.30pm, the river level at Ross-on-Wye was 4.3 metres and rising slowly, with a peak level of between 4.3 and 4.6 metres expected this evening.
The level at Monmouth was 4.6 metres and rising, with a peak level of between 4.7 and 4.9 metres expected tonight.
Jennie Griffiths, head of control at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, tweeted that they had received a flood warning for the River Wye at Monmouth with flooding expected to affect up to 87 properties.
The rowing club underpass gates have been closed.
Elsewhere the level at Grosmont was 2.3 metres and falling, after a peak level of 3.7 metres at 7.30am today.
River levels are falling in the Upper Wye and the rainfall has become showery, said Natural Resources Wales.
