Gwent Police confirmed that the woman who died in this morning's crash was from the Hereford area.
The car collided with tree, according to a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service.
The police added that the accident was on the A465 at Llangua, between Abergavenny and Hereford, which remains closed.

The A465 in Llangua remains partially blocked following the accident.
The woman was taken to Nevill Hall hospital in Abergavenny by a crew from the West Midlands Ambulance Service.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue said they were called at 6.50am to the incident on the A465 near Grosmont.
Crews form Abergavenny and Ebbw Vale were at the scene, but were not required as firefighters from Hereford and Worcester dealt with the incident.

A WOMAN died this morning in a crash on the A465 near Abergavenny.
The woman was the only occupant of the vehicle involved, a black Ford Fiesta, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened at around 6.50am and no other vehicles were involved.
Diversions are currently in place but the road will reopen fully shortly.
Officers ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call 101 quoting log 36 10/02/14.
