THIS YEAR’S Newport half marathon, in aid of St David’s Hospice, will be sponsored by Admiral with additional support provided from Taylor Wimpey.
The Argus-backed race, on Sunday, March 2, will see participants try and raise money for their chosen charities having already paid £24 to St David’s Hospice Care to run in the race.
It is the first time that Admiral have sponsored the half marathon, which was first hosted last year.
An Admiral spokesperson said: “It is just the second year the City of Newport Half Marathon has been held and we’re particularly happy to be able to come in at such an early and formative stage.
“To know that the sponsorship and financial assistance we’re providing will play a key part in helping secure this significant event for the city is fantastic.
“It’s a fantastic event for Newport that raises much needed funds for a very worthy cause; St David’s Hospice Care.
“We’re confident 2014’s event will be a huge success and would like to wish all those taking part the very best for the race.”
Taylor Wimpey is also backing the event and as an official sponsor will be presenting every runner that crosses the finish line with a goodie bag filled with gifts.
Sara Taylor, regional sales and marketing director, said: “The City of Newport half marathon takes in many of the city’s best-known landmarks, including Shaftesbury Park and the Riverfront, as well as our new development Lysaght Village.
“We’re delighted to be sponsoring this worthwhile fundraiser and would like to wish all the runners who have signed up to take part the very best of luck.”
With all of the money raised going towards nursing costs for the hospice, it is vital to try and maximise the day’s profit.
“With their [Admiral and Taylor Wimpey’s] help financially we are able to make it a better experience for runners,” said Tania Ansell of St David’s Hospice Care. “It also helps us to keep costs low so that more money goes towards nursing.
“We are extremely grateful for the local support of such reputable companies that helps put the marathon on the map.”
