THERE are a number of businesses in my constituency doing so much in the community, it’s time to recognise their achievements.
Nominations have opened for the Wales Responsible Business of the Year awards, an annual event sponsored by Welsh Government and run by Business in the Community, which aims to celebrate businesses that are really making a difference around Wales.
Do you know of a business that is enterprising, growing, working with young people or committed to supporting the environment? If so, nominate them.
There are eight categories in total, seven awards categories for Businesses in Wales, which showcase best practice in a range of responsible business issues.
There is also one ‘Individual Award’ open to nomination which highlights the achievements of individuals in leading the responsible business agenda.
Further information on the categories and the application forms are available at www.bitc.org.uk/awards
The closing date for entries is February 21 and wouldn’t it be great if a Blaenau Gwent business scooped one of the accolades?
In other news, I was delighted to attend the annual dinner of Abertillery and District Museum Society recently and be guest speaker at the event.
The museum society was founded in 1964 with the aim of setting up and maintaining a museum in Abertillery, to hold monthly talks, and to promote history in the area.
The society has gone from strength to strength and it was an honour to support this great organisation.
I look forward to working with them in the future and continuing to support their work in the community.

It’s just a few weeks until Market Hall cinema, Brynmawr, celebrates its 120th anniversary, and preparations are well under way for a weekend of celebrations.

I’m holding a surgery on Friday, February 14 at my office on Beaufort Street, Brynmawr, from 3pm until 4pm.
Please feel free to pop in for a chat about any issues or concerns you have anywhere in Blaenau Gwent.
If you are unable to attend, please contact my office to make an alternative appointment on 01495 311160.
