A NEWPORT man has won £25,000 on a lottery quiz game show.
Michael Clayden, 28, of Walls Close, Gaer, appeared on BBC's The National Lottery: Who Dares Wins on February 1 with Tom Ward from Plymouth and won £50,000 between them. The winning pair, who had never met before, had to dare their opponents to complete lists of different categories which included naming the largest Australian cities and listing the words in Bohemian Rapsody by Queen.
The manager at Glamorgan Cricket Centre said: "It was such a surreal experience going on there. It was well worth it in the end, it was a great opportunity - it was just brilliant.
"Tom wasn't really a quiz goer, I was a bit competitive. Some people said I should get a cut of his since I named a lot. Plymouth are in the same league as county so we might meet up."
The pair won £50,000 by naming 15 actors credited in any of the Avengers films but were defeated on the show when they named Wayne Rooney as their 17th male celebrity out of 25 which wasn't on the list compiled by Heat Magazine's database.
He said: "25,000 will keep me happy. It's a lot of money and I don't want to blow it to be honest.
"Our roof needs to be fixed as there's a permanent leak, we're thinking of maybe having a new bathroom done. I will probably take my fiancée out for a nice meal."
Mr Clayden filmed the show on December 1 and had to keep quiet about his winnings.
He said: "I told my fiancée and my parents. I thought my dad might let it slip a couple of times.
"I couldn't watch the show with my family, I had to watch it on my own. Lots of my friends were watching at the cricket club. Some of them didn't even know I was on the show - I had a lot of texts and tweets that night."
