A NEWPORT singer will appear on BBC One’s The Voice this Saturday as part of the blind auditions.
Callum Crowley, 22, originally from Stow Hill, has made it through to the penultimate episode of the blind auditions, which will air on Saturday night.
The former St Joseph’s High School pupil will be vying for a place on one of the coaches’ teams as spaces become increasingly limited and the fight for a coveted spot on Team Will, Team Ricky, Team Kylie or Team Tom is fiercer than ever.
Although Callum moved to London last March, he still regularly visits Newport as his family remains in the city.
He said: “All of my family are still in Newport, so I come home quite regularly and am always going back and forth.Callum says he had always been a fan of the show, but it was only when his grandmother made him promise to go to an audition that he seriously thought about applying.
He said: “I have watched every series of The Voice, and even watched the US version online..
“One day I was watching it with my Nan and she said, ‘You have got to go for it, I know you would get through’.“So I went but I didn’t tell my family until I had been to a couple of the auditions that take place before the blind auditions.”
Callum says he has always been obsessed with music and dance, and describes his music style as commericial, with a particular focus on urban, pop and R’n’B.
On Saturday millions of viewers from across the UK will see him perform Usher’s Climax.
He said: “I chose that song because I’m a big fan of big vocals, riffs and techniques.”
He added: “The whole experience is amazing. It’s so surreal, when you’re there on stage, looking at the backs of the chairs just hoping they will turn around.”
l Callum will appear on The Voice on BBC One on Saturday February 15 at 7.10pm.
